Tarneit isn’t know for its Victorian-style homes, but a rare residence that captures the ethos is wowing buyers.

The custom-designed home at 4 Scarborough Court took a year to build in 2005 in the sought-after Royal Oaks estate and is filled with period style from its 2.7m ceilings to its double-hung windows, ceiling roses and timber floors.

Barry Plant Tarneit director Rick O’Halloran said the house was “one of the most elite” in the suburb and on a very short list of Victorian-style homes in the postcode.

Mr O’Halloran added that one of the first people through the home had walked out saying “this is not a house, this is a palace”.

It’s a fair statement, given the home’s 500sq m interior includes four living spaces, with daily life centred on the open-plan entertainment zone at the rear of the ground level.

Anchored by a kitchen with bullnose granite benchtops, European appliances and a walk-in pantry, the space opens via French doors to a sun room with a built-in barbecue and sink, plus bistro screens to make it comfortable in the cooler months.

The main bedroom has an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, and joins a guest bedroom with a bay window on the ground level. Four more bedrooms share the upper level with a bathroom, media room and east-facing balcony.

Mr O’Halloran estimated the pattern paved driveway would have cost more than $30,000 alone.

“You’d fit eight cars on it, and then there’s side access beside the garage and home that’s big enough to put a truck through,” he said.

“And that goes out to the man cave with space for two or three caravans.”

With a $1.35m-$1.45m asking price the home is listed for private sale.
